Rules for behavior on and band trips
With very few exceptions, during out of town instrumental music trips, transportation will provided by the school system using school buses. Students must understand that from the time the student arrives on the school grounds in preparation to leave for the trip until the time they leave the school grounds after arriving home, they are representatives of Eisenhower High School and Lawton Public Schools. Therefore, their behavior, appearance and actions must reflect positively towards themselves, the music groups they are representing, Eisenhower High School and Lawton Public Schools. Therefore they should follow these rules.
1. Students should follow the school dress code while on activity trips. This includes no wearing of hats, dew rags or bandannas, no short shorts or the sagging of pants. In addition, the students travel clothes will consist of the following: A pair of plain jeans (no decorations, wide leg, baggy or torn jeans) or jean shorts (weather permitting) and a sleeved shirt and comfortable shoes.
2. If the student chooses to bring a C.D. player, D.V.D. player or other electronic device, they must use headphones at all times. Students should also be reminded that the school buses do not lock and their valuables may be at risk of theft.
3. As stated in the school rules, cellular phones may be brought on trips, but must be turned off during the entire performance. Use of the phone during a performance will cause the phone to be confiscated and turned in to the school office where it must be picked up by a parent.
4. Public displays of affection should be limited to hand holding only and only during breaks and before or after a performance. Couples who are sitting together on the bus should remain seated, facing forward, with both feet on the floor.
5. Bus transportation is provided for all students to all out of town performances. Students may ride with their parents provided prior notification is given to the director. Students may ride with another students parents provided that permission by both sets of parents is given to the director. Permission from the parent by cell phone is permitted. Students will not be allowed to travel to or from any out of town performance with any other individual who is driving a vehicle. Students are not allowed to drive their own vehicle to an out of town performance, as stated in the school rules.

8. Please put your instrument in your case during breaks to keep it from being damaged.
9. The band area is for band members only. Please visit with your friends who are not in the band during your break. The band member is responsible to inform their friends of this rule should they come into the band area. If they refuse to leave, please inform a director. If your friend chooses to break this rule, they will be asked to leave and the proper authorities will be notified. If you allow an unauthorized individual to remain in the band area, you will be disciplined. We do allow band alumni who have graduated to visit in the band area. This is a privilege they have earned.
Grading
Band is not only an extra-curricular activity, but is also a class for which you will earn a grade and receive credits toward graduation. There are four types of grades you can receive in instrumental music classes.
1. The weekly participation grade for which you will receive 100 points or one grade weekly. To receive this grade you must be on time to every rehearsal during the week as well as have all necessary materials when the rehearsal begins and put them away when the rehearsal is finished. For every deficiency (ex. being tardy or missing a necessary item) the 100 point grade will be deducted by 25 points.
2. Performance grades are worth 400 points or four grades each. To receive the entire 400 points you must be on time to the performance, must remain for the entire performance, must be in complete uniform, have all necessary performance items and demonstrate proper behavior during the performance as well as travel to and from the performance. The students grade will be deducted in the following manner: Incomplete uniform - 200 point deduction, incomplete or missing instrument - 300 point deduction, missing music (all or any portion) - 300 point deduction, tardy - 100 point deduction. Any point deduction from a performance grade may be made up by practicing or working in the band room for 30 minutes for each 100 point deduction.
Please read the portion of this handbook that discusses excused and unexcused absences from performances. Excused absences must be made up within 15 school days. Please see Mr. Haas to make arrangements to make up the points.
3. Extra rehearsal grades such as after school rehearsals or before school sectionals are worth 200 points or two grades each. Tardiness or missing materials at these rehearsals will cause the weekly participation grade to be deducted accordingly. Students must remain for the entire rehearsal to receive the grade. Students who leave a rehearsal early to go to a job will be considered absent unexcused from the entire rehearsal. Excused absences from these rehearsals must be made up within 15 school days by practicing in the band room.
4. Daily grades are worth 100 points of one grade each. These include playing or marching tests and other daily assignments. Important assignments or large projects may be worth more.
At the end of the grading period, the points are added together and divided by the number of total grades to receive and average for which the following grading scale is used.
90 - 100 = A 80 - 89 = B 70 - 79 = C 60 - 69 = D 0 - 59 = F
